In terms of performance the Pioneer4you iPV D4 is a simple mod but it does the job flawlessly. You can use it in power mode up to 80W and it also features temperature control for Ni, Ti, SS and TCR. Build quality is excellent, the finish is outstanding and it offers great value for money. It's also one of the tiniest mods from the IPV series and it's powered by the accurate Yihi SX310H chip. The perfect mod for people who are looking for a go-to device that's easy to use and offers decent power.
The iPV series of mods is definitely popular. We all remember almost indestructible boxes from two or three years ago. Solid, powerful and built for what was the beginning of the cloud chasing movement. Then came the D2s and the D3s, which offered accuracy and performance in really small packages. The Pioneer4you iPV D4 is the newest member of the compact box mod family and it's very similar in performance to its predecessors.
This tiny mod is nowhere near as powerful as the IPV5 we reviewed last year. It's a single 18650 device that goes up to 80W. The design is rather similar to the D2 or the D3, and looks like a space ship in miniature. The display is almost identical to the one on the previous versions and the menu is simple and easy to use.
What you get inside the box
The Pioneer4you iPV D4 comes packed in a black cardboard gift box. Inside you will find the device itself, a user manual, quality control sticker and a charging cable. Just like in the case of other mods from this series, the cable doesn't have a micro-USB plug. Instead it uses something similar to my radio clock and it's probably one of the biggest cons we found with it. You have to be extra careful with the cable because if it gets broken it's hard to find a replacement.
The Pioneer4you IPV D4 design and main features
As we mentioned earlier this mod is very compact. It measures 78 x 39 x 24mm and it probably the tiniest IPV in the series. It's not the type of mod that looks great with a big tank on top. As a matter of fact we only recommend using it with low profile tanks and atomizers. And you won't be able to put anything bigger than 24mm on top because of the overhang. Even some 24mm atties tend to look a bit off, especially if they are in a different color.
The Pioneer4you iPV D4 has a pretty solid, spring loaded 510 connector on the top. It is adjustable and we didn't notice any contact problems with our tanks. On the main side we can spot the big fire button and the two adjustment buttons, as well as the display. The charging port is located on the base, and that's the second con we found with the device. If you put an RDA on top like we used the Goon LP you will have to take it off every time it needs a recharge.
The battery door is magnetic and it has no rattle. You simply need to pull it from the mod and you have access to the compartment. We recommend using a high drain 18650 cell rated for at least 25A to safely fire the device at over 70W. Since the mod doesn't forget its settings when you take the battery out, it's a good idea to use an external charger and always have a spare available. When using the device at 40W you're looking at around 4h of battery life.
