It’s hard to get a hold of a good touchscreen mod these days, and the Smoant Charon 218 TS is one of the best we tried so far. Everything about this 218W powerhouse feels high end and the user experience is just incredible. It doesn’t have any glitches, very responsive and looks fantastic. You can almost compare it to mobile phone software. Intuitive and very easy to work with.
Great software
Sleek design
Nice pre-heat function
A true bargain
Bulky
Heavy
The Smoant Charon 218 TS comes packed in a square cardboard presentation box. Inside you will find the mod itself, a cable and the user manual. You have six different colors to choose from, including rainbow and wood-grain.
Design and measurements
Right out of the box you will be surprised by the build quality and material used. It almost looks and feels like a high end smartphone. The device measures 85 x 59 x 29mm and has a nice amount of weight to it. It’s basically Zinc alloy frame with glass panels on both sides. On top we have a spring loaded 510 connector and it fits atomizers up to 25mm in diameter. On the main side we have lock screen button, the fire button and the micro-USB slot.
The Charon's shiny sides: The battery and TS display
The battery compartment is hidden behind one of the glass panels and it’s held in place by four powerful magnets. The Smoant Charon 218 TS works with two high drain 18650 cells and we do recommend Sony, LG or Samsung. The other panel is actually a gorgeous 2.4 inch touchscreen display which looks and feels amazing. The user interface is original and intuitive and feels like something from a SF movie.
Software, Variable Wattage & Temp Control
With this mod you get variable wattage and temperature control for Nickel, Titanium, Stainless Steel and TCR. You have the option to create your own VW power curve and there’s also a temperature curve. The device fires down to 0.1 Ohms in power mode and down to 0.05 Ohms in TC mode. You can easily lock the touchscreen and you can also adjust the brightness.
The menu system is well organized, and super easy to use. In variable wattage mode you can select you pre-heat setting or edit your personal power curve. This is very similar to the graphic equalizer on your music player and it’s spanned of a time interval of 10s. We’re not sure if the firmware is upgradable or not but they most likely implemented this feature. This is because when you check settings in the menu you have a version number right next to the firmware.
Other interesting features
The Smoant Charon 218 TS also comes with 1A balanced charging so you can safely recharge the two batteries inside the mod. It also features several safety features like low resistance protection, cut-off interval, overheating protection and low voltage protection. It’s also a pass-through device so you can use it while it’s charging.
Final words
The Smoant Charon 218 TS is one of our favorite touchscreen mods. It shares the no #1 spot with the SMOK G-Priv and it’s definitely worth buying. Build quality, materials, user experience and performance are off the charts. It also looks great with any tank or RDA you might put on top of it and chucks out clouds like a champ. The screen doesn’t lag, always registers your moves and it’s very responsive. Apart from some minor button rattle, quality of graphics, its weight and bulkiness we didn’t find any noticeable cons.
If you ask us, should you get this TS mod? We would definitely say, YES. Why? Because this box mod vape is priced extremely low for the amount of features and its capability.
