SMOK H-PRIV 2 225W TC kit review | Gorgeous sub ohm combo from SMOK

Referred to as "Return of the Hero" – this is a new and improved version of an absolute classic. We had featured the original H-Priv for more than a year on our best box mods page and it was definitely one of their top performers.

H-PRIV 2: Packaging and colors

The SMOK H-PRIV 2 225W TC kit comes packed in a regular black cardboard box. Inside you will find the mod, the all new TFV12 Big Baby Prince tank with a 0.4 Ohm coil pre-installed, a spare 0.15 Ohm coil, replacement glass section, micro-USB cable, spare parts and the user manual. Color options include Blue, Red, Chrome, Black, Rainbow, Green, Purple, Pink, and Gold and all of them come with the signature honeycomb texture.

A beautifully designed box mod

The SMOK H-PRIV 2 225W TC definitely feels like something from 2018, even though it has some of the elements that made this device so popular almost two years ago. It has that nice oversized fire bar on the side and it's powered by two high amp 18650 batteries. The chassis is made from top quality zinc alloy and has lovely carbon fiber inserts.

The device measures 84mm x 52mm x 27mm and has a weight of 165 grams (batteries not included). On top we have a spring loaded 510 connector as well as the small display. The up / down buttons are placed on the side at an angle and the fire bar and micro-USB slot on the opposing side. Battery door is on the base and features that lovely "slide to unlock" mechanism.

SMOK H-PRIV 2 board

The board on this mod is responsive, accurate and comes with a very intuitive menu system. It features variable wattage from 1 – 225W, temperature control, as well as a pre-heat function. Temperature control works between 200 – 600F and it has presets for Ni200, Titanium, Stainless Steel as well as TCR.

Preheat option includes three profiles – Hard, Normal, and Soft which will adjust the way this mod performs each time you press the button. It fires down to 0.05 Ohms in TC mode and down to 0.1 Ohm in regular power mod. The board also comes with upgradeable firmware and that's always a big pro in our books.

The TFV12 Big Baby Prince tank – another cloud champ

With the SMOK H-PRIV 2 225W TC starter kit you get the new Big Baby Prince sub ohm tank. This 6.0ml bad boy has a drip tip with the same texture as the mod and they look phenomenal together. It features swivel top fill, adjustable airflow and handles high VG e-liquids without any problems.

The two coils – Q4 0.4 Ohms and T8 0.15 Ohms – are from the V8 Baby coil family and they deliver exceptional vapor and flavor. We mostly used the 0.4 Ohm coil at around 50W, but if you're looking for more power the 0.15 Ohm version goes all the way up to 110W.

The SMOK H-PRIV 2 225W TC starter kit is a thing of beauty and it performs flawlessly. It does have a couple of cons like the weirdly placed adjustment buttons, the dim display and the fact that it's not that ergonomic; however it absolutely shins in terms of vapor and flavor. The TFV12 Big Baby Prince tank is fabulous and the coils are very well engineered.
