With the Pulsar we tested both the regular coils as well as the Clapton version and found the Claptons better suited for flavor. The regular 0.5 Ohm coil doesn't get as hot at the same wattages but it lacks the finesse when sampling complex e-juices. The 0.5 Ohm Clapton coil at around 40W was our personal favorite and it's something we definitely recommend.
Apollo released dozens of products across the years, but when it comes to tanks this is our personal favorite. It has an original design and the way the coils are built allows for excellent flavor as well as hassle free replacing. The Apollo Pulsar tank has a total capacity of 4.0ml and it's intended for big clouds as well as high VG e-liquids.
Last year we tested the Phazer and we were more than impressed with its performance. The Reliant kit was one of our to-go kits for months. However the new generation of Apollo products are much more advanced and mainly focus on quality.
The Apollo Pulsar tank is the perfect match for their CTRL mod we reviewed a few months back. It is available in three different colors – gold, black, and silver – and it's build with top stainless steel and Pyrex glass. The device measures 72mm in height and it has a diameter of 22mm. Total weight is little under 70 grams.
WHAT YOU WILL FIND INSIDE THE BOX
Inside the package you will find the tank itself fitted with a 0.5 Ohm Clapton coil. You also get a spare 1.0 Ohm Clapton coil, a bag of extra O-rings and the user manual. These coils don't have the metallic outer shell like all the usual atomizers so cotton comes in direct contact with the e-liquid. This makes them easier to prime, easier to work with thicker e-liquids and great for flavor.
DESIGN AND MAIN FEATURES
The thing we love the most about Apollo Pulsar tank's design is that you can replace coils without draining the juice from inside the reservoir. This tank has juice flow control and once you close the mechanism you can easily remove the coil from the stem. As opposed to screwing into the base this time the coil screws into the chimney. This prevents leaking through the airflow control ring and accounts for a very satisfying overall experience.
To open or close the juice flow control you need to keep the glass still while slowly twisting on the base. Depending on the VG concentration of your e-liquid you can keep it half open or fully open in the case of thicker juices. Also you can adjust the airflow control from a restrictive direct lung to a very airy draw depending on your personal preference.
Despite the 1.0 Ohm coil, the Apollo Pulsar tank is not something intended for mouth to lung and the vapor tends to get quite warm. This is why it has an additional airflow control ring just under the drip tip. It's something we are familiar with since the TFV4 from SMOK. This helps reduce the temperature of the vapor and accounts for an even airier draw.
