ecig batteries Electronic cigarette safety has become front-page news recently as there have been several reported incidents of lithium ion battery cells suddenly catching fire. Of course, everyone wants to rest assured that their e-cigarette is safe and we are going to take a look at some tips to make sure that you will always enjoy your ecig in optimal parameters.

Important notes about charging e-cig batteries:

  • Always use the correct type of charger for the battery you are charging. A smart charger is always the best option;
  • Never leave batteries unattended while charging and always pay attention to unplug before going to sleep or out;
  • Don't put your charger on easily flammable surfaces such as carpets or surfaces that could be damaged by heat;
  • Make sure you unplug the battery once it’s fully charged;
  • It’s recommended that you leave your battery to rest for a couple of hours after recharging;
  • Don't let the battery to getting over discharged, it's recommended to recharge the battery when it is low on power;
  • Don't leave the battery without any power at all when it's not in use because it will drastically affect its lifespan;
  • Do not toss your batteries in flames and don’t leave them under direct sunlight on in places with high temperatures;
  • If your battery become damaged simply toss it; never try to recharge a faulty battery;
  • If a battery becomes hot when you're charging it, unplug the charger and let it cool down until handling it;
  • Lithium ion batteries cannot be charged at temperatures below 32 F or 0 C. Even though your battery indicator lights will make it look like the battery is charging normally, that is not the case.
  • Never solder anything to a battery;

How to store and take optimal care of your electronic cigarette battery:

  • Storing batteries properly prolongs the lifespan of your battery and helps keeping them from becoming a safety hazard;
  • Store batteries away from metal objects including items such as keys, coins or aluminum, therefore it’s not a good idea to keep them in your pocket or purse;
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place, which is not in proximity of extreme of temperatures or humidity (an office desk or a drawer work great);
  • If you live in a predominantly hot climate batteries can be stored in a refrigerator (but pay attention not to freeze them). When storing them like this, you must seal them in an airtight plastic bag to maintain the appropriate level of humidity;
  • When storing lithium batteries for a period of time, ideally leave them about 40% charged. This minimizes deterioration and allows the battery to slowly discharge itself, a key element for its operational health;
  • Always store batteries with the positive and negative terminals away from each other so they can’t conduct electricity;
  • Avoid storing new and old batteries together;
  • Dispose of batteries safely and in accordance with environmental regulations (many stores have special boxes where you can toss these devices);
