Oil Pens Explained
What is an oils pen and how does it work
As opposed to wax and concentrates pens, oil pens have a much simple construction and many times they look very similar to old school ego style vapes. These devices consist of a slim battery and a cartridge that can be either pre-filled or refillable.
They are intended to be used with viscous Cannabis derivatives, such as CBD vape oils or THC oils. And the interesting fact is that there are not that many differences between a THC pen and a CBD pen in terms of functionality. The only thing that is different is how they affect our bodies.
An oil pen works either by filling the empty tank with CBD or THC oil, or by attaching a pre-filled cartridge. You then simply press the button to inhale, or inhale directly on pens which don't come with a fire button. More advanced pens for oils come with adjustable power output for more control over the vapor and flavor.
The main types of oil pens
There are several types of oil pens available on the market today. We have pens for thin oils and pens for thick oils. These devices are very similar, except for the resistance and type of atomizer, as well as the calibrated output. Then we have oil pens for cartridges. These are just like regular eGo batteries that work with store bought or dispensary bought CBD/THC cartridges. And last but not least we have the oil pods pens, which function with tiny refillable capsules.
There are some concentrates pens out there which are also compatible with oils, but the experience mostly depends on the type of heating chamber used. Here we usually have two options: either quartz rods wrapped with wire or a dish style ceramic atomizer. And while both give good results, the vapor is a lot smoother on a dedicated oils pen. With the oils pen you also don't have to worry about spills or leaks since these vapes are sealed.
